How to Enter the 2014 Y.E.S. 2.0 Competition on iStart.org

Eligibility

The Y.E.S. 2.0 business plan competition is open to current students in grades 9-12 throughout Arkansas. Students can compete individually or as teams with up to six members.

Where is the competition?

How do I get started?

Individuals and teams must be sponsored by a teacher advisor who is a 9th – 12th grade teacher, or a sponsor previously approved by the Arkansas Economic Acceleration Foundation (see “Rules”). Each teacher advisor/approved sponsor must have an account on iStart.org.

            • After you fill out the “Business Name” and “Abstract” boxes, that’s it. You do not need to fill out any other information on the page, including the option at the bottom to “Display Your Business on the iStart Public Directory?”.
          4. After completing the business name and abstract boxes, click “Save” at the bottom of the page.
          5. You will then be taken to the iStart Competition Participant Agreement. Please feel free to read the agreement. 6. You will then be taken to an “Application Page,” where you will be prompted to complete the Teacher Advisor / Approved Sponsor information, School information, and Team Member information.
            • If team member information is not known by the Intent to Compete deadline January 31, submit at least one name. All team names do not need to be finalized until the business plan is submitted.
          7. You will then be taken back to your profile page. You should see the business name you just entered under “Your Current Business Ideas.” Whether you intend to submit one plan or multiple plans, nothing further needs to be done until after the Intent to Compete deadline of January 31 at 5:00 p.m. Business plans cannot be submitted before this time.

                • If this business name is not the same name of your business plan, go to the “My Businesses” box to the right of your profile page. • For the purposes of registering and submitting your business plan, please fill in only the “Business Name” and “Abstract” boxes.
                • For this stage of the competition, the “Business Name” must be the name of the business plan you want to submit.
                • The “Abstract” should be a summary of your business plan, and can be as brief as one sentence.
                • After you fill out the “Business Name” and “Abstract” boxes, that’s it. You do not need to fill out any other information on the page, including the option at the bottom to “Display Your Business on the iStart Public Directory?”. Click “Save.”
                • You will then be taken to the iStart Competition Participant Agreement. Please feel free to read the agreement. Enter the names of each team member. You will then be prompted to upload your business plan from your computer or flash drive.
                • Do not worry about the existing business name you submitted during the Intent to Compete process. It will continue to stay in your profile although it will not be used.
                • To submit more than one business plan, follow the steps in 3) above, beginning with the “My Businesses” box to the right of your profile page.
              4. All business plans submitted and uploaded under teacher advisors/approved sponsors’ iStart accounts will appear on their profile pages under “Your Current Business Ideas.” Changes can be made at any time until the 5:00 p.m. deadline on February 28.

Other Important Information:

                  • Business plans must be uploaded in either Microsoft Word format or PDF.
                  • Once uploaded, please ensure all pages are uploaded correctly.
                  • Please ensure all teacher advisor/approved sponsor and team member names are spelled correctly.
                  • Depending on your Internet connection speed and/or traffic on the iStart website, pages on iStart may be slow to load. Keep this in mind as you work on the website.
                  • Also, the website will prompt you occasionally with a pop-up box asking you to consider publishing your business plan publicly on iStart, saying you can “update your iStart Business Idea to opt-in, include logos, photos, videos and other information.”
                  • This is not a requirement of the Y.E.S. 2.0 competition, but you can choose to do this if you wish.

Good Luck and Thank You for Competing in Y.E.S. for Arkansas 2.0!
